President officially signs gazette notification for Presidential elections PDF Print E-mail

The gazette notification signed by the President to hold Presidential elections was forwarded by President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge this evening (23), to the Elections Commissioner. The Elections Commissioner has sent this special gazette notification to the Govt. Press for printing. Already, printing of the gazette has begun at the Govt. Press, reports say.
Following the President’s notification, the Elections commissioner shall notify the date of nominations and the date of elections under the Constitution, Section 31 (5).

The UNP and the JVP have stated that they would make known their common candidate after the President has announced the Presidential elections officially.
