 It is reported that JHU too has split due to the forthcoming presidential election. The party has got split up on who would be supported at the presidential election.
According to information reaching us a  section of the JHU has proposed that the present President, the candidate of UPFA, should be supported by the JHU while another section had said the party should support the common candidate. Among those who opposed extending support to the President is a group including Ven. Akmeemana Dayaratne Thero. At the moment this is being keyed Ven. Akmeemana Dayaratne and four other Bhikkus of JHU are having a press conference say reports reaching ‘Lankatruth.’It could be to convey their view on teh presidential election say our sources.

We were not allowed time to take Legal action against constitutional amendments –Ranil UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing a media briefing at the Sri Kotha on the 1st, said the party was more ready to take political measures rather than legal against the Govt.’s proposed constitutional amendments.

Mr. Wickremesinghe gave this above answer in reply to a question posed by the media whether the UNP is taking legal measures against the constitutional amendments of the Govt. He also added that, as the proposed amendments in writing were received by the party only on Sunday last, there was hardly any time for the party’s legal Council to make an evaluation thereon.
