Presidential elections victory was not won but robbed by Mahinda – Gen. Fonseka PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 05 February 2010
Addressing a  well attended protest rally at Hyde Park on the 3rd , Gen. Fonseka said , the Presidential election victory which was his legitimately was robbed by the President Mahinda Rajapakse by fraudulent manipulations and rigging.
The protest meeting under the theme ‘public  campaign  against the fraudulent elections and rigged results’ was organized by all the constituent parties of the UNF.

The General to prove his point displayed a ballot paper which was found near the Gampaha  district Secretariat . This is just one of the countless cases of frauds , malpractices and illegalities the Govt. indulged in to rob election victory , he pinpointed. Practically daily , the election   frauds committed by Govt. are being unearthed , he added.
The President is so gripped with a fear psychosis following the fake election results that he has made  his ‘men’ to run amok and stop protests, actions  and demonstrations which are emerging against the Presidential election results.  High ranking Army officers are being victimized on the ground that they supported me.. 30 of his Army officers who were working have been arrested – 3 Major Generals, 4 Colonels, 5 Brigadiers . My secretary is also being threatened with arrest. What is this Govt. aiming at by these actions , if the President has won the elections truly , duly and Democratically ? he asked . Is this the way a democratic leader celebrates his victory honestly acquired? Dictators like Idi Amin , Mugabe could celebrate this way attacking and murdering opponents because of their evil rule and illegally plundered victories. But , how can Rajapakse who proclaims loudly to the world that he is a cherisher and flourisher  of Democracy emulate them ? he asked.  Obviously , this is because , Rajapakse also has no option but to follow them having robbed victory like those leaders , he observed

We were not allowed time to take Legal action against constitutional amendments –Ranil UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing a media briefing at the Sri Kotha on the 1st, said the party was more ready to take political measures rather than legal against the Govt.’s proposed constitutional amendments.

Mr. Wickremesinghe gave this above answer in reply to a question posed by the media whether the UNP is taking legal measures against the constitutional amendments of the Govt. He also added that, as the proposed amendments in writing were received by the party only on Sunday last, there was hardly any time for the party’s legal Council to make an evaluation thereon.
