UNP manifesto focuses on vital sectors Education, healthcare, joblessness most neglected by this Gov PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 11 March 2010
Addressing the UNP party Colombo District convention yesterday (10), UNP and Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said ,the UNP manifesto for the April 8th General elections will focus specially on the education sector , healthcare and joblessness which are the most vital , yet most neglected by the Govt.

Being people oriented, it will primarily address all issues of the people rather than those elected to Parliament on people’s votes. It is a shame that Ministers of education and Health who totally ruined those sectors are staking their claims to become the Prime Minister, without realizing they deserve a demotion and not a promotion , he pointed out.

In all developed countries, education, health and employment are considered as of paramount importance, but, under this Govt. they are treated as subjects which are of no consequence. It is therefore no wonder all these vital areas are in a dismal situation.

The UNP is well armed with solutions to all these problems as well as the Govt.’s fiscal mismanagement. Outlining the programs ahead, he stated, the UNP as it comes to power will upgrade 500 Schools to National level to enable students to g o up to advanced level , thereby easing congestion . He pledged that the whole health system shall be streamlined which is now in an abysmal mess. Supply of drugs, maintenance of medical and Hospital facilities for the public, and health care services will be maintained uninterruptedly. Efficiency and conscientiousness at all levels will be maintained, he emphasized.

Speaking further, he said, the University curriculum will be revised so that it will be job oriented and facilitate the Graduates’ employment on completion of studies.
