Domestic jewellery to shine bright in South India

Sep 3 (F2F) Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Ministry of Sri Lanka is making efforts to promote gems and jewellery of the country in South India, which is considered to be a profitable market. In order to make the plans productive, a meeting was recently held among the officials that was chaired by Mano Wijerathne, Enterprise Development Minister. The authorities present in the conference, discussed about the primary preparations that are being made for holding an exhibition in Chennai.

Chinese Foreign Minister to visit Sri Lanka

Sept 02 (CP) Colombo: Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will visit Sri Lanka from Sept. 7 to 10, at the invitation of Sri Lanka Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to sources, it will be Yang's first visit to Sri Lanka since taking office in April 2007.

Army imprisons more than 100 deserters

The Army Courts Martial, following imposition of punishment on 106 convicted Army deserters handed them over to the Welikada Prisons Headquarters today for imprisonment, a Press Release issued by the Army Headquarters declared.
 
Mervyn says his gold chain was snatched

The Cinnamon Garden Police informed court today that Minister Mervyn Silva
made a complaint to the Accident Service Police Post that his gold chain
weighing 13 sovereigns was snatched when the Minister was assaulted outside

Sept 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka has managed to export 3,500 metric tons per annum of the famous Ceylon Tea to the United States, reportedly the most unique tea market in the world.

The sales have generated a revenue of Rs. 2 billion with a potential for future expansion.

According to sources, the Ready-to-Drink (RTD) ice tea sector, in pet bottles, cans or tetra packs, accounted for about 80% of retail sales

We were not allowed time to take Legal action against constitutional amendments –Ranil UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing a media briefing at the Sri Kotha on the 1st, said the party was more ready to take political measures rather than legal against the Govt.’s proposed constitutional amendments.

Mr. Wickremesinghe gave this above answer in reply to a question posed by the media whether the UNP is taking legal measures against the constitutional amendments of the Govt. He also added that, as the proposed amendments in writing were received by the party only on Sunday last, there was hardly any time for the party’s legal Council to make an evaluation thereon.
